The Church Council consists of fifteen members, including the Moderator, Assistant Moderator, Clerk, Treasurer, appointed representatives from major Boards, and four members elected from the congregation at large. One of the four at-large members represents youth. (Also see the Council page.)

Board of Diaconate

Cares for the spiritual life of the Church and Community in cooperation with the Pastors. (Also see the Diaconate page.)

Number of members: 12
Length of term: 4 years (1 term limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the sanctuary for worship and assist the Pastors in the conduct of worship.
  • Prepare and assist in the administration of all the Sacraments and Rites of the Church.
  • Maintain regular and reverent schedule of worship in the absence of a Pastor.
  • Assist the Council in establishing and annual budget for the church.
  • Provide input to the Personnel Board on annual performance evaluation, job descriptions and contract of the pastoral staff.
  • Actively welcome and participate in the reception of new members.
  • Maintain contact with all members and encourage active participation in the life of the Church.
  • Have special concern for Christian outreach, parish visitation and cultivation and the stewardship for time and talent.
  • Maintain the Church guest book and Friendship Registers.

Additional information:

  • The Diaconate shall be alert to special needs of the Church membership and assist the Pastors in ministering to the sick and sorrowing, the poor and the stranger.

Board of Facilities

Cares for the facilities of the church. (Also see the Facilities page.)

Number of members: 8
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of all the Church property within its authorized annual budget.
  • Provide input to the Personnel Board on annual performance evaluations, job descriptions and contract of the custodial staff.
  • Evaluate insurance needs.
  • Authorize building use.
  • Assist the Council in establishing an annual budget for the church.

Board of Christian Education

Oversees the religious education of the Church. Provides numerous programs and activities.

Number of members: 12
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities

  • Develop and direct the religious education for all ages.
  • Recruit church school teachers.
  • Arrange for childcare as necessary.
  • Assist the Council in establishing an annual budget for the church.
  • Obtain equipment and supplies within its authorized annual budget.
  • Coordinate educational functions with other Boards and Committees as necessary.
  • Provide input to the Personnel Board on annual performance evaluation, job descriptions, and contract of Christian Education and Nursery staff.
  • Maintain cradle roll.

Stewardship Board

Provides year-round education about Christian stewardship to church members and friends.

Number of members: 9
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and coordinate annual stewardship drive.
  • Acquaint new members with the financial needs and obligations of the Church and shall solicit their support.
  • Assist the Council in establishing and annual budget for the church.

Board of Christian Outreach and Mission

Supports the outreach plans and activities of various organizations of the Church.

Number of members: 8
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Pastors in keeping before the Church the work of the Wider Church in the areas of relief, development, justice, and peace.
  • Promote regular and special offerings throughout the year and encourage plans for systematic benevolent giving.
  • Distribute mission offerings in ways relevant to the Gospel of Jesus.
  • Assist the Council in establishing an annual budget for the church.

Personnel Board

Provides guidance and establishes standards on personnel policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal laws.

Number of members: 3
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain job descriptions for all staff with input from the appropriate Boards and Committees.
  • Establish and oversee the evaluation process for all staff members.
  • Draft and present to the Church Council proposed salary and benefit packages for each employee.
  • Assist the Council in establishing an annual budget for the church.

Board of Music Ministry

Leads the Church's music program.

Number of Members: 5
Length of term: 3 years (2 terms limit)
Reports to: Church Council

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the direction and goals of the music program in conjunction with the Senior Pastor.
  • Coordinate the music program in conjunction with the Senior Pastor.
  • Evaluate the music program.
  • Provide input to the Personnel Board on annual performance evaluation, job descriptions and contract of the organist and choir director.
  • Assist the Council in establishing an annual budget for the church.
