Sacred Dance Group

As we ended last year we talked as a group about our goals for the coming year.  We had settled into a somewhat regular routine and wanted to challenge ourselves to reach and grow with the ministry of dance in worship.

This year we added a Thanksgiving piece which we danced not only in worship in our own church but we were invited to share this piece at St. Thomas Catholic Church at the Ecumenical Thanksgiving service held each year by the Derry Clergy.  This was also a new venture for us as we danced this piece to a CD and not with a live choir.  This opens up a whole new area of music for us, we have always practiced with CD’s or tapes but never danced in a worship setting to this type of accompaniment.  We have always treasured the live music that supports our dancing and thank Sue Handy and the choir for all their energy, gifts, and direction.

This winter we re-choreographed a long time favorite, One Bread One Body and presented the communion gifts on Sunday March 5th in a truly different way.  Our church family wonderfully accepted this piece and we look forward to sharing this again in the near future.

We have also danced at Christmas Eve, the Women’s Retreat, and we are preparing a piece for Good Fridays service both at FPC and ecumenically at the Good Friday service sponsored by the Derry Clergy.  We have also been practicing a piece by Josh Groban entitled “You Raise Me Up” which we shared at the Women’s Retreat and we are looking forward to bringing it into our worship service sometime this spring.

We rehearse on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 and welcome anyone who would like to join our group for the year, the liturgical season, or just for one dance.
