NUTFIELD COOPERATIVE SCHOOL

Nutfield’s mission is to provide the most favorable environment possible for the growth and development of young children by stimulating creativity, developing intellectual curiosity, and by expanding the learning environment. We meet our mission by hiring qualified staff, limiting class size, and having a low student- teacher ratio. Our developmental approach allows children to grow at their own pace, while being intellectually and physically challenged.

Nutfield offers morning and afternoon Kindergarten classes, morning three-year-old preschool classes, and morning and afternoon four-year-old preschool classes. Included in our regular program are music and gym classes, and storytelling. All field trips are included in our tuition. Members of The First Parish Church are offered priority in registering their children for classes at Nutfield. For information on registration or to arrange a visit call our Registrar, Kim Crowley, at 434-2602 between 9:00-11:30 AM.

Nutfield is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC Accreditation offers parents a level of quality that state licensing does not always guarantee. Research has shown that children’s language and social skills benefit from the better quality found in accredited programs. These are critical areas for children’s success in school as well as in life. We will be going through the reaccreditation process during the 2006-2007 school year. This year NAEYC has instituted new program standards and accreditation criteria. We are looking forward to the challenge.

We continue to offer yoga classes for Nutfield staff and parents, and members of the First Parish Church. It has been a nice way for us to meet members of the First Parish Church.

Joe Dabrowski continues to do wonderful job keeping our classrooms and restrooms clean. Rod Hunt was our maintenance person until January. Since then a variety of FPC members (Leo VanSteensburg, Harry Carter, Bill Armstrong, et al) have been volunteering to help keep things running smoothly around here. I would especially like to thank Harry Carter for being there for us!

Nutfield would like to thank the First Parish Church for their continued support. It is a pleasure working with Alice, Shea, and Lucy. We look forward to another productive and cooperative year.
