Church Web Site

The church’s web site is an opportunity to facilitate communication, to share and preserve the activities and expressions of our faith, and to generally enhance the First Parish community experience.
Several of the web site goals set for 2005 were satisfied. Safe Church concerns were extended to the web, and the resulting security policies ensure privacy and safety, especially for children. More photos and descriptions were produced in the form of event “scrapbooks” and various special features, and the site began to be used more effectively to promote the church and community activities.
Event tracking and communication also took a step forward this year with the posting of a dynamic on-line calendar system.
Most significantly, interest in web content grew amongst several groups. Examples include new donations updates coming from the Missions Board, the beginning of an interesting Historical Highlights series with the Historic Preservation Committee, and the establishment of a focused Youth Ministry section. This trend should continue through 2006, with more info and features coming from these groups, and other groups beginning to participate more actively.

Additional specific goals for the upcoming year include:
Enhancement and growth of the faith and spiritual aspects of the site.
Fleshing out those parts of the site still lacking material.
More videos, music, and forums or blogs to increase interest and interactivity.
Exploration of a password-protected private part of the site for use with sensitive information (e.g., internal meeting minutes or captioned kid photos).
Further integration with existing communication flows and the various groups so that site material gets submitted and posted more efficiently.
