Annual Report of the Sacred Dance Group (2003-2004)

This has been a wonderful year for the dance group. In April we achieved our goal of acquiring and dancing in beautiful liturgically appropriate garments. Thank you Lynn Mann and Alice Mullen for all your hard work on the garments. This fall with the help of the Music Board we were able to have our garments embroidered with gold crosses to further compliment our attire, our thanks to the Music Board.

In June we held a bake sale in conjunction with the Plant Sale Kathy Waller organized. We had wonderful support with baked goods and the funds raised were used to help offset the cost of purchasing our dance skirts and cassette tapes for rehearsal music.

This winter members of our group took advantage of several Sacred Dance workshops in our area. In October four of us traveled to Bow to attend a workshop led by Brenda Long, and sponsored by the Fellowship of United Methodist in Worship Arts. In January three of us attended the Prepared to Serve Seminar organized by the New Hampshire Conference of the UCC in Penacook and enjoyed dancing under the direction of Sandy Fischer.

We have danced in worship numerous times and have also been invited to share in outside, community events like the Ecumenical Good Friday Service in downtown Derry and the Women’s Retreat held each January. Thank you for all the wonderful and positive feed back we receive on each occasion. Please feel free to talk with any member of the Sacred Dance group or Music Board with concerns or suggestions for our dancing.

We meet every Thursday night at 6:30 for about an hour to rehearse and there is always room for more dancers.
