Confirmation Class Trip to the Heifer Project Farm

“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth…”

The weekend of October 27 - 29, 2006, this year's Confirmation Class went to the Heifer Project International's Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA. 

Our theme was creation.  It’s the beginning of our confirmation year, so it’s good to talk about beginnings – our beginnings, God’s beginnings. 

The weekend was full of animals – care of animals and the world around us – and us.  God’s care of us.  We led llamas, milked and gave hay to cows, were unnerved by a water buffalo, and named sheep and goats.  In the midst of all this, we talked about Genesis 1 and 2.  How there are two very different creation stories at the beginning of the Bible and what these stories have to say about God, about us, about good and evil, about polytheism and monotheism, about God’s covenant with humankind.  And we asked questions and more questions and more questions and discussed all sorts of things.
