Service Trip to New Orleans, February 11-17, 2007

January 2007 — It’s that time!  It’s time to seriously consider giving a week to help those who continue to suffer the effects of Hurricane Katrina. We have 20 spaces reserved, and there's still room for more volunteers to sign on. We'll stay in a church, sleep on mattresses, appreciate hot showers, fix our own meals and enjoy getting to know each other better while also helping folks in New Orleans.

There will be a Planning Meeting on Sunday, January 14th at 8:30 am in Cook. This is open to the “definites” as well as to anyone who is just “considering” going on the Service Trip.

The details of our work will depend on what is needed most in February. They're still cleaning out moldy sheet rock, and there is rebuilding underway.

Whatever we do will make an inestimable difference in people's lives.
Speak with Alice Ling to learn more and/or sign up!

Office Note (Nov. 2006)

You are an amazing congregation, and a blessing to many people in this community. I would like you to know that I enjoy working with you and I am happy to help you any way I can ... and to be able to help you, I need your assistance with some of the following:

  • Would you be willing to e-mail the articles to me for the Newsletter by the 20th of the month? They seem to be coming in later and later!
  • Did you know that we keep a copy of the minutes for all Board and Committee meetings in the church office?  It would be great if you could e-mail a copy to me as soon as the minutes are complete.
  • The church has many wonderful activities happening in the building.  Please remember to check if your meeting date and chosen room are available before you advertise.
  • To expedite a check request, please attach your receipts and have an authorized person from your group co-sign the form.
  • If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.  Thank you!

Share Your Time and Talents (Sept. 2006)

  • Are there boards or committees you might like to serve on?
  • Do you have a musical gift you'd be interested in sharing?
  • Interested in getting involved in a mission project?
  • Do you like to work on flower beds, maintenance projects, special projects?
  • Can we interest you in helping in the Church School program? with a youth activity?
  • Does Adult Education interest you? Is there a subject you'd love to explore?
  • Can you offer a ride to church? a meal to a sick person? some yard work?

We have a form for any of these and even more areas of interest, places you can share your time and talents with First Parish. They'll be available at Rally Day, in the office and around the church. Please fill one out and return it to the church office. It's a great way for us to connect your interests with needs in and around the church.

If you'd like to serve in some way, but you're not quite sure where or how, speak with Alice or Lucy. They'd welcome the chance to talk with you and help you explore where you might get more involved

Hospice Volunteer Training (Sept. 2006)

Derry/Salem Home Health and Hospice is offering a fall training program for volunteers in their Londonderry office. Volunteers become an active and integral part of the hospice team and are able to provide patients and family members with comfort, support, companionship and respite during a precious time in their lives.  Many have found this to be a very rewarding experience.

Training will be offered once a week beginning Thursday, September 21st from 9-11:30 am and will end Thursday, November 16th.

To register, or for more information, please call Donna Nichols, Volunteer Coordinator at 603-437-9443.
